前NBA 球星「魔獸」霍華德（Dwight Howard）在離開台灣後，一舉一動仍受到國內關注，近期美國隊巴黎奧運球員名單出爐，而他並不在其中，他本人也在社群網站上表示：「我想我該為菲律賓隊來效力了。」
美國隊本屆奧運 41 人名單中有：LeBron James、Stephen Curry、Jayson Tatum、Anthony Davis、Kevin Durant、Kawhi Leonard、Jimmy Butler、Kyrie Irving、James Harden、Damian Lillard、Paul George、Anthony Edwards、Joel Embiid等超級球星，也有Aaron Gordon、Alex Caruso、Duncan Robinson、Austin Reaves、Jaren Jackson Jr.、Bam Adebayo、Mikal Bridges等頂級配角，誓言要衛冕金牌。

霍華德過去雖然是禁區悍將，也曾入選過美國隊，但他近年已不在 NBA 之中打球，狀態也不如巔峰時期，不在名單之中也不讓人意外，不過一向愛熱鬧的他，自然是不會就這樣讓事情結束。

上賽季還在 T1 桃園雲豹效力時，霍華德就曾要求美國籃協在選擇巴黎奧運球員名單時，要將他擺入其中，否則就要代表中華男籃出征，並且要砍下 85 分。

如今天他在菲律賓球隊之中效力，因此現在他也在個人 X （原推特）上表示，「我想我要加入菲律賓國家隊了」，也吸引了許多流量關注，美國媒體《basketballforever》甚至還發出一張他身穿菲律賓國家隊的合成照片，引發留言熱烈討論。
